What is The Camp Promise Summit?

The Camp Promise Summit is an empowering youth experience created to help boys and girls ages 12–14 navigate the real challenges they face every day while building confidence, leadership, character, and healthy relationships. Hosted by John R. Lewis Legacy Institute at Troy University, this one-day summit combines mentorship, meaningful conversations, team-building activities, and interactive learning in a safe, engaging, and uplifting environment.

Inspired by the legacy of Congressman John R. Lewis and his belief in the power of young people to create change, Camp Promise encourages students to lead with courage, integrity, and purpose. Participants will engage in discussions and activities centered around peer pressure, choices and consequences, leadership development, communication, self-confidence, and decision-making.

The summit is designed to meet youth where they are while equipping them with tools that will support them both now and in the future. Through games, group activities, mentoring moments, and real-life conversations, students will leave encouraged, empowered, and reminded that their choices, voices, and futures matter.

As Congressman John R. Lewis often reminded us, young people have the power to change the world. At the Camp Promise Summit, we are committed to investing in the next generation by creating spaces where youth feel seen, supported, challenged, and inspired to lead.

Today’s young people are tomorrow’s advocates, innovators, educators, entrepreneurs, and change-makers. When we pour into them now, we help shape a future rooted in courage, compassion, leadership, and hope.

The future is already in the room. We simply have a responsibility to help guide it.
